Who is eligible for the First Home Owner Grant?
FHOG is available to people buying or building their first home and who meet the following criteria:
- Be a natural person (i.e. not applying as a company or trust) and be at least 18 years of age.
- Never owned and/or occupied a home before (there are some specific dates that need to be considered here).
- Must be an Australian citizen.
- Must reside in the home as your principal place of residence for a continuous period of at least 6 months commencing within 12 months of completion of the eligible transaction.

First Home Owner Grant
State and Territory Governments commenced a scheme in July 2000 to provide eligible applicatnts a one-off $7,000 grant to provide financial assistance to Australians buying their first homes through the First Home Owner Grant (FHOG).
